Inspire your young scientists by introducing them to some world-changing African-American scientists, inventors, engineers, and doctors with this digital and print NGSS aligned activity!
This activity will have students working individually or in pairs to learn about 15 different African-American heroes that made advancements in the field of science while battling discrimination and prejudice. After students learn about these scientists, they will work together to consider real-life problems that they have encountered. They will incorporate NGSS practices by defining their problem and identifying the criteria and constraints regarding their problem.
In addition, this activity includes a reference sheet for the teacher with a quick bio of each scientist, a rubric for easy grading, teacher instructions, and a digital AND print version. The digital version is fully editable! Great for a Google or digital classroom environment!
*You will need internet connectivity and a Google Drive account to access the slides.
